The overtension auto-release (OTAR) provided by LAN Port Protector, is a mechanical protection to the Ethernet interface. A common cause of failure for potentially expensive equipment arises from mechanical damage to Ethernet sockets resulting from excessive tensile or lateral forces. These forces act upon RJ45 sockets and their supporting circuit boards, potentially damaging them beyond repair.
